AI Workflow:Discovery & interviews

User research to opportunities

Plan the research, write the interview guide, then turn what customers actually said into product opportunities. The last step asks for transcripts or insight notes and generates ideas from them.

AI workflow scope

Let's start with the decision this research needs to unlock. Describe the product, who you can talk to, and what you are trying to learn.

Step 1

Plan and run user research

Pick a method and plan research

Step 2

Plan customer interviews

Plan a problem or PMF interview

Step 3

Product discovery to solution

Turn insights into opportunities

Final outcomes

  • Pick a research method and write a plan tied to a product decision

  • Write a customer interview plan with non-leading questions

  • Turn interview transcripts and insights into product opportunities

How the AI workflow works

  1. 1

    Describe your starting point

Describe the product decision this research must unlock, and who you can talk to. Paste text, drop a link or upload a file. No account needed.

  2. 2

    Get one document per step

Each of the three agents writes a complete Markdown document from what you provide, lists the assumptions it made, and asks at most two follow-up questions.

  3. 3

    Context carries forward

Every step reads the files from the steps before it, so the final product-opportunities.md traces back to research-plan.md and to your first input.

  4. 4

    Save and continue

Sign up at the end to move the run and its three files into a Product Map project. The same agents keep working with your context, and the run link stays shareable.

When to use this workflow

  • You have a roadmap bet and no evidence from customers yet

  • You've run interviews and the notes sit in a doc nobody has synthesised

  • A stakeholder wants a feature and you need a research plan you can run in two weeks

  • You're a founder doing discovery for the first time and need a guide before the first call

  • Your team argues about what users want and you need quotes, not opinions

F.A.Q.

Is this AI workflow free?

Yes. You run all three steps as a guest, with no account. You sign up only when you want to save the results into a Product Map project.

How long does the workflow take?

Each step generates in under a minute. A full run takes 10 to 15 minutes, including the time you spend on your input.

What do I need to start?

Describe the product decision this research must unlock, and who you can talk to. A few sentences are enough: every agent writes a complete document from what you provide and lists the assumptions it made.

Which AI agents run inside this workflow?

Three Product Map AI agents run in order, one per step: “Plan and run user research”, “Plan customer interviews” and “Product discovery to solution”. Each one also works as a standalone agent inside the platform.

Can I share the results?

Yes. Every run has a link you can send to anyone. Viewers read the conversation and open the files. Only you can send new messages.

What happens to the files after I sign up?

The run and its three files move into a new Product Map project. The agents there use the same files as product context, so you continue from where the workflow stopped.

What if I already have a research plan or a discussion guide?

Upload it at the matching step. The agent refines what you have and fills the gaps instead of starting from scratch.

Do I need interview transcripts?

Only at step three. Steps one and two work from a description of the decision and the people you can reach. Insight notes work too, but quotes, pains and workarounds make the opportunities stronger.

Does it cover problem interviews and product-market fit interviews?

Yes. Tell the second agent which conversation you're planning and it adjusts the question blocks, probes and screener for that goal.

What does the product opportunities file contain?

Opportunities grouped by the underlying customer need, each with supporting quotes, how often it came up, and a first solution idea to test. The file is ready to paste into an opportunity solution tree or a roadmap discussion.
